    Introduction

Welcome to dislocation.com.au. This website is designed to provide emergency healthcare workers with practical approaches to joint dislocations. My original website (shoulderdislocation.net) has been offline for a while so instead of just talking shoulders, for the re-launch I thought I would include some of the other reduction techniques I use in the Emergency Department. That means that you’ll find my techniques for reducing shoulders, hips, jaws and more. The clinical videos in this website are only made possible by the generous permission of the patients involved. This website is free to access, as is any of the material used for teaching purposes. I’d also like to thank the emergency registrars of St Vincent’s Hospital over the past decade – I’ve learnt more from watching them attempt reductions than I’ve taught them in return.

So, to get started, click below to select the joint you need to reduce. You’ll find a step-by-step approach for each joint, with how-to videos. For more detail, and to improve your understanding of each joint, there are links to further information such as practical algorithms to optimize your approach to dislocations, and the changes to anatomy in dislocation.

Or check out the FAQs and jump straight to the answer you’re looking for.

This section is still a work in progress so please send your link to dr_cunningham@hotmail.com and I'll add to the page from there.

    References

there are many cases and techniques described in the literature for joint dislocations. At the bottom of each page there is a reference list of papers (in alphabetical order and with links where available) for anyone interested in researching the topic. If I’m missing any please get in touch and I’ll add them in.
